Tactical Idea Generation, or TIG, is a unique start-to-finish idea development system that leverages the following approach:

  • Improving employee awareness of creativity techniques and idea generation concepts
  • Promoting a creative culture within your organization
  • Harvesting the ideas of your employees
  • Moving the ideas through analysis and decision-making
  • Rewarding employee idea generation
  • Following up on the effectiveness of the ideas

Help your employees help your business by educating them on the creative thought process, useful techniques on idea generation, and provide them with an efficient idea submission system that allows them a creative outlet.  Create and maintain an environment where everyone’s ideas are not only sought, but valued.

When those ideas start rolling in, you must also have a plan on how to evaluate the ideas on a timely basis, as well as, how to implement the idea into a practical solution for improving your business operations.  Provide ideas with a logical, non-bureaucratic path to follow.  Ensure that the idea generator is provided with constant feedback and input into the shaping of the idea into a workable concept.

Feedback and swift decision making are the greatest rewards for an idea generator.  That is not to say that rewards, monetary or otherwise, should be dismissed outright.  However, when an employee is able to add efficiency or capacity to their work day based on their idea, or they are able to improve the customer experience, that is typically all the reward they need to perpetuate the cycle of idea generation.

Finally, ensure that you have some type of follow-up procedure or analysis in place to validate that your action to implement an idea actually had tangible benefits for your organization.  The concept is not just to make someone’s job easier; it is to improve business operations and/or the customer experience with your company.

The worst thing you can do to an employee’s creative morale, even worse than flat out refusing to accept new ideas, is to solicit employee-based ideas and then do nothing about them.  This is what I call the “Great Idea Flushing Sound.”  Your rank and file employees are the closest link you have between your product or service and your customers.  They are the real experts at making your business work.  It stands to reason then, that your rank and file employees would also be your best source of new ideas that will improve your product or service or customer experience.

Think For A Change, LLC can help you design a "right-sized" tactical idea development system that will not only generate ideas, but activate those ideas into workable solutions.
